What Is Start Proud
Start Proud aims to connect 2SLGBTQ+ students with employers, while promoting the development of 2SLGBTQ+ professionals, and celebrating the achievements and service of those in the community.
We facilitate the professional development of 2SLGBTQ+ students as they transition from school to career in order to build a national network within the community. Our vision is to empower members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community to be Canada’s leaders of tomorrow, where all institutions embrace inclusiveness within the workplace and diversity within the workforce.
About the Role:
The Vice President, Finance provides strategic financial planning, manages the budgeting process, and oversees Start Proud’s day-to-day accounting operations.
In this role, you will:
- Understand and are committed to the goals, values, mission, and programs of the organization.
- Stay apprised of issues and trends that may affect the organization.
- Avoid any potential conflicts of interest
- Understand and maintain confidentiality
- Is a vocal advocate and supporter of the organization
- Share their unique passions, knowledge, and experience for the advancement of the organization
- Have a strong understanding of budgeting and financial reporting
What you’ll be doing:
- Manage the day-to-day finances of the organization and maintain the organization’s accounts
- Along with the Corporate Treasurer, lead annual financial planning and ongoing forecasting for the organization
- Work with the leadership team and Corporate Treasurer to create an annual budget
- Ensure development and maintenance of financial procedures and systems
- Advise the leadership team and Corporate Treasurer on all Start Proud financial matters, including budget updates, financial reporting, etc.
- Work with the Vice President, Operations and all leadership team members to ensure that financial processes are implemented effectively and that decisions made by the leadership team fit within the organization’s financial plan
- Attend weekly executive meetings
- Advise the leadership team, and occasionally the Board of Directors through the Corporate Treasurer, on financial trends in the organization
- Facilitate a work environment that personifies a culture of inclusive excellence
Commitment:
- ~5-10 hours per week
- Mandatory attendance at monthly and quarterly management meetings
- Mandatory attendance at Start Proud events and initiatives throughout the year.
- Frequent attendance at cross-functional team meetings to represent finance interests.

This role is a one-year appointment by the President. The term may be modified or extended from time to time as the President determines to be in the best interests of the organization.
